Residential development in Woodbridge has undergone a series of shifts and changes in recent years. The Woodbridge District contains a large percentage of Prince William County’s older neighborhoods where many residents raised their families and helped build the community. Some of these neighborhoods are in need of maintenance and revitalization.  Numerous county programs and processes are designed to maintain and improve the quality of Woodbridge neighborhoods.

Screening/Fencing Along Route 1

Did you notice this new fencing at the North Entrance to Woodbridge?? While we wait for the Route 1 widening to start, Supervisor Principi wanted to hide these vacant VDOT properties. He is still working with VDOT to get the vegetation cleaned up around it. Just a little something to remind you of all the beauty that Woodbridge has to offer!

Community Clean Ups

As the gateway to Prince William County, the Woodbridge District is exposed to residents, visitors, and many out of town commuters.  We take pride in our area and strive to maintain the health and integrity of our communities.  Residents throughout the community participate in clean-up activities and landscaping projects to protect, revitalize, and beautify our parks, roadways, and neighborhoods.     Information on how you can participate in up coming events will be posted on this link.

Featherstone Railroad Crossing Construction Complete

Supervisor Principi worked with the County Department of Transportation, VDOT and CSX to replace the railroad crossing.  The replacement required a complete road closure at the tracks during daytime hours.  Though an inconvenience during construction, the new crossing allows vehicles easy access across the tracks.

Supervisor Principi would like to thank all the agencies who worked together to minimize the impact of the closure on residents.

Potomac National Heritage Scenic Trail

One of the best kept secrets in the Woodbridge Magisterial District is the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail (PHNST). In September of 2010, Prince William County dedicated an eight mile segment to be incorporated into the PHNST from the Woodbridge District.  This multi-purpose trail connects historical and recreational sites from Virginia's Northern Neck to Pittsburgh, PA.  The county is facilitating the alignment of the trail through the various parks and wetlands contained along the 8-mile stretch .  Parts of the trail have been dedicated and opened to the public, while combined efforts are underway to unify the remaining areas.

POLICE DEPARTMENT

The Police Department offers the opportunity for individuals to ride-along with a police officer during a normal tour of duty, and experience an officer’s day-to-day duties and responsibilities. Criminal justice students, and those interested in a career in law enforcement, have found it particularly useful. The Ride-Along program fosters a better understanding of the challenges, hazards and rewards of a police officer’s role in the community.

PROPERTY CODE ENFORCEMENT

Public Works, Neighborhood Services, 703-792-7018
The goal of the Property Code Enforcement program is to ensure properties in Prince William County are maintained and used in accordance with the County's land use requirements ("zoning"), and to ensure that structures are well-maintained for the health and safety of residents. Severely deteriorated structures and illegal, temporary advertising signs in the road right-of-way are also handled by Property Code Enforcement.

Common violations investigated are:

  • Junk and trash in the yard and trash containers stored in view
  • Inoperative vehicles and commercial vehicles on private property
  • Illegal accessory structures (sheds, fences, decks, etc.)
  • Tall grass and weeds higher than 12 inches on residential properties

The best approach is to talk to your neighbor and see if you can solve the issue through neighborhood cooperation. HOAs and condo associations have internal resources to handle many of these problems. Otherwise, please check with Neighborhood Services to see if the condition is in violation of the codes. For details of services and common violations, please visit http://www.pwcgov.org/pce. If it is determined that there may be a violation, inspectors will investigate. If violations are not corrected, violators can be involved in a legal proceeding that may include fines and/or an appearance in court.
